The handshake of generations
The “handshake of generations” says Andri when he describes a link between his mother and his grandchildren. These family members are much more connected than we typically think.
My grandparents are not alive, and therefore they seem like the distant past. But in fact, they had a direct influence on my parents, who had direct influence/connection with me, and if I ever have kids (I won’t), I could have a direct touch-point with them. That’s a handshake between many generations spanning (potentially) hundreds of years. It’s a beautiful metaphor to bring time into perspective. And it’s not just a metaphor as these generations that span these years can in many cases, actually shake hands.
See Andri’s Ted Talk - it’s beautiful and touching.
