About the Project

The Motherfucker Awards uses comedy in an Academy Awards-style event to bring environmental awareness and target corporations who do the most damage to Mother Earth.

Comedians represent the companies responsible for the most impressive damage of the year, writing their own acceptance speeches. Journalists and activists confront the comedians with basic facts about their achievements.

Created and hosted by professional surfer Kyle Thiermann and New York Times bestselling author Chris Ryan, this corporate accountability through comedy project gets the word out about some of the biggest issues of our time.

Social & Environmental Impacts

The companies targeted by the Motherfucker Awards are some of the largest and most powerful in the world—they're also incredibly damaging. The 2018 awards recognized corporations like Coca-cola for contributing the most plastic to our oceans and Purdue Pharma, the makers of Oxycontin.

The awards show that social and environmental issues are complex and often interconnected. While Tyson Foods is dumping millions of tons of pollutants into US waterways, it's abusing human rights in its factories—both of these tactics contribute to the company's bottom line, squeezing its resources and banking on externalities. Chase Bank is the top Wall Street funder of tar sands, arctic oil and gas, coal mining and many other fossil fuel industries. The bank has put almost $200 billion dollars to these projects since the Paris Agreement, ignoring the climate emergency and indigenous rights on the lands they’re trashing.

The Motherfucker Awards' website has hilarious video clips of the acceptance speeches, alongside articles and actions you can take against the winning corporations.
